Libertà (2025) — Short Film

A woman with Alzheimer’s has spent her whole life making choices with integrity, but her illness leads to conflict with her daughter. This film explores whether character can — or cannot — overcome the consequences of Alzheimer’s.

Libertà is a Dutch short drama directed by Dapper Bruijn and co-written by Raoul Karadag. The story follows Andrea, a 76-year-old woman fiercely determined to hold on to her independence despite the first signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Her daughter Elizabeth, motivated by love and concern, tries to protect her, but their perspectives clash. The result is a deeply human portrait of dignity, autonomy, and the fragile balance between freedom and care.

Libertà was inspired by my grandmother’s story. Taking on both production management and cinematography allowed me to stay close to the heart of the story. Libertà is my tribute to her life and to everyone touched by the reality of Alzheimer’s.
